Prairieland Feeds’ owner, Garry, was born here in Champaign-Urbana and spent his summers working on his grandparents’ farms. He majored in Agriculture from the University of Illinois and started working in the feed industry. His passion for animal nutrition allowed him to help farmers see the positive impact better nutrition could have on their animals. This same passion motivated him to open Prairieland Feeds in 1985 to help customers in the Champaign-Urbana area better care for their pets and livestock.

After 21 years in business, Prairieland Feeds needed more space to grow, and Prairieland Feeds–America’s Country Store opened in 2006. The increased space became home to more products for people who love animals and the outdoors. Now, in addition to pet and livestock supplies, the store offers birding supplies, outdoor furniture, nature-related gifts, and much more. Prairieland Feeds is also the first and only full-service Traeger dealer in Champaign-Urbana, offering the widest selection of Traeger grills and supplies in the area.

The new store was designed to create indoor and outdoor space for educational seminars including their “Pet Fair Extravaganza” that has been running for 29 years. This event has brought attention to the work that local animal organizations do to rescue, save, rehabilitate, and care for companion animals and wildlife. Prairieland Feeds also partners with the Champaign County Humane Society to provide new pet owner guides & coupon sheets to utilize in-store while shopping for your new for your new family member. As a Purina Certified Expert Dealer, Prairieland Farms partners with Purina Mills to offer free workshops for livestock owners. The store has hosted a Show Feeding and Fitting Clinic at the University of Illinois and brought in experts to teach livestock enthusiasts tips for success.
